Jesus e seus movimentos desconhecidos ao redor do Mar da Galiléia (João 6:16-23)

16  Ao cair da tarde, os seus discípulos desceram para o mar, 17  entraram num barco, e começaram a atravessar o mar para Cafarnaum.

Parte do problema é que só podemos saber com limitada segurança onde o milagre da alimentação de 5000 pessoas foi realizado. O local mais provável é o  indicado no mapa (cor) mostrando a viagem de Jesus  de Jerusalém para o Mar da Galiléia. Ele, portanto, provavelmente, realizou o milagre de alimentação da grande multidão não muito longe da costa sul do lago (indicado pela seta).

Não é fácil acompanhar os movimentos de Jesus, dos discípulos e das multidões nessa intensa história  cheia de fé, ações, milagres e comportamento inexplicável e ensinamentos. Mas, se caminharmos devagar e com cuidado através do texto,  devemos ser capazes de traçar com alguma clareza quase todos os movimentos descritos aqui. Então, vamos começar. Começamos (vs.16) com o local onde ocorreu a alimentação das 5000 pessoas  (provavelmente o ponto ao sul do mar da Galiléia), quando Jesus escondeu-se na encosta da montanha, os discípulos entraram no barco e começaram a fazer a sua curta viagem para o outro lado do lago - a cidade de Kfar Nahum - literalmente a aldeia de Naum (que conhecemos na forma latinizada como  Cafarnaum, que chegou a nós no Evangelho de João, escrito em grego).

Parece estranho que os discípulos deixaram o local sem esperar por Jesus tempo suficiente para que as multidões saíssem e ele voltasse. É provável que ele deu instruções aos seus discípulos para encontrá-lo em Cafarnaum, seu quartel-general do norte, onde a família de Pedro tinha uma casa grande.  A popularidade de Jesus lá era  enorme. Podemos ver que, mesmo quando ele falou aos fiéis e seguidores na sinagoga da cidade sobre "beber seu sangue e comer de sua carne", ele não parece ter sido incomodado de forma violenta. A história simplesmente termina com as palavras "Jesus disse estas coisas na sinagoga, ensinando em Cafarnaum" (Jo. 6:59 ).

17 Agora estava escuro, e Jesus ainda não tinha chegado a eles.

Embora esta afirmação seja um pouco estranha, é possível que o acordo de Jesus com os discípulos foi de que ele viria em um barco separado e iria alcançá-los no meio do lago. Vamos descobrir o que se desenrolou e que foi uma grande surpresa para os seus discípulos.

18  O mar tornou-se violento, pois um forte vento soprava.

O lago de Kinneret (Mar da Galiléia) está situado entre  montanhas onde, durante determinadas épocas do ano,  pode ocorrer uma tempestade violenta  que pode virar facilmente  um pequeno barco. Isso ocorre até hoje. De fato, eu, pessoalmente, conheço alguém que já pescou lá (ele não é pescador profissional  mas, no entanto, é bastante experiente) quando ocorreu uma tempestade como a descrita no vs.18. Foram chamados  os serviços  israelenses  de socorro e o  homem foi levado de helicóptero em segurança. (Agora ele verifica cuidadosamente o tempo, antes de ir pescar  lá novamente).

19  Depois de terem remado cerca de três ou quatro milhas, eles viram Jesus andando sobre o mar e aproximando-se do barco, e eles ficaram com medo.

Apenas para dar uma perspectiva, o lago em forma de pera tem cerca de 23 quilômetros (14 milhas) de comprimento de norte a sul, com largura máxima de 13 km (8 milhas) ao norte, cobrindo 166 quilômetros quadrados (64 milhas quadradas), então não é tão grande, mas, no entanto,  é considerável. Somos informados de que o barco com os discípulos tinha percorrido cerca de 3-4 milhas que corresponde a cerca de um quarto de toda a distância. Era noite e as luzes das cidades costeiras ainda estavam brilhando ao longe. Como  mencionado o motivo pelo qual eles deixaram Jesus não está claro, mas ver uma figura em movimento na água foi assustador.

20  Mas ele lhes disse: "Sou eu, não temam." 21  Então, eles ficaram contentes de levá-lo para o barco, e logo o barco chegou à terra para onde iam.

Jesus não os deixou esperar e rapidamente respondeu com segurança confortadora. Eles ficaram espantados e animados ao ver o seu rabino exercer o seu domínio sobre a força feroz da natureza (água), caminhando sobre ela com facilidade. Mas não havia tempo para pensar, e uma coisa muito curiosa aconteceu. Embora a distância ainda fosse considerável, cerca de 20 quilômetros (10 milhas) para Kfar Nahum (Cafarnaum), o barco chegou em segurança a praia pedregosa. Isto pode soar como um incidente sem relação com nada, mas seriamos culpados do ponto de vista teológico em não saber que a distância e o tempo estão sob o senhorio do próprio Deus e somente dele. Ele vive sozinho fora do tempo e fora de distância, como tal, é eterno e onipresente. Portanto, esta ocorrência curiosa é realmente muito importante, porque mostra que quando o Deus-Homem (Logos de Deus) Jesus está no barco com os discípulos, o barco é capaz de desaparecer de um lugar no mapa e aparecer  em outro. Na postagem anterior, nós discutimos outra curiosidade como esta que faz um leitor atento se maravilhar. Jesus estava em Jerusalém, em João 5, mas no momento em que ele termina sua conversa com hoi Ioudaioi  e no início do capítulo 6, descobrimos que ele já estava em uma das margens do Mar da Galiléia, pronto para embarcar em seu barco e atravessar o mar. João detalha a atividade milagrosa de Jesus, mas ele se concentra na atividade de milagres que não se limita a caracterizá-lo como um homem de Deus, mas como o próprio Deus, embora sendo também um verdadeiro ser humano em todos os sentidos, exceto no pecado.

22  No dia seguinte, a multidão que permaneceu do outro lado do mar, viu que  tinha havido apenas um barco lá, e que Jesus não tinha entrado no barco com seus discípulos, mas que os seus discípulos tinham ido sozinhos.

A multidão se perguntou o que havia acontecido. Os discípulos não poderiam ter deixado Jesus para trás na costa. A multidão observou o lugar onde ele poderia ter embarcado em outro barco cuidadosamente. Jesus era para ser encontrado em algum lugar após a sua fuga para as montanhas quando ele desapareceu depois de uma tentativa de coroação pela multidão equivocada para fazê-lo rei. Os discípulos saíram sem esperar por Jesus. A matemática simplesmente não funcionou. Onde ele estava? Ele é feito de carne e sangue, ele tinha que estar em algum lugar. As multidões raciocinaram que, talvez, tivesse ido para Cafarnaum. Como? Eles não sabiam.

23  Outros barcos de Tiberíades chegaram perto do lugar onde tinham comido o pão depois de o Senhor ter dado graças. 24  Então, quando a multidão viu que Jesus não estava ali nem os seus discípulos, entraram eles também nos barcos, e foram a Cafarnaum, em busca de Jesus.

Melhor, somos capazes de ver a cronologia da história. Quando os barcos da vizinha Tiberíades chegaram ao ponto sul do mar (o último lugar que Jesus foi visto - mesmo lugar onde Jesus alimentou as 5000 pessoas), as multidões pensaram: "Jesus deve ter pegado o barco em Tiberíades, onde os seus discípulos devem ter ido também". Lembre-se, era noite e a multidão não podia ver que os discípulos não foram na direção de Tiberíades, a noroeste, mas simplesmente para o Norte em direção a Cafarnaum. Por isso, no vs. 24, lemos que, quando as multidões descobriram que nem Jesus, nem os discípulos estavam nos barcos que vieram de Tiberíades, alguns deles entraram nos barcos e partiram para Kfar Nahum ao Norte (Cafarnaum) um lugar conhecido de moradia de Jesus. Eles queriam ver Jesus e nada ia detê-los.

16 When evening came , his disciples went down to the sea , 17 got into a boat , and started across the sea to Capernaum .

Part of the problem is that we can only know with limited security where the miracle of the feeding of 5,000 people was conducted . The most likely location is indicated on the map ( color) showing the journey of Jesus to Jerusalem to the Sea of ​​Galilee . He therefore probably performed the miracle of feeding the large crowd not far from the south shore of the lake ( indicated by arrow ) .

It is not easy to track the movements of Jesus , the disciples and the crowds in this intense story full of faith , actions , behavior and inexplicable miracles and teachings. But if we walk slowly and carefully through the text, we should be able to draw some clarity with almost all movements described here . So let's begin . Started ( vs.16 ) with where the power of 5000 people (probably the point south of the Sea of ​​Galilee ) occurred when Jesus hid himself in the mountainside , the disciples got into the boat and began to make his short journey to the other side of the lake - the city of Kfar Nahum - literally the village of Nahum ( we met in Latinized form as Capernaum , which came to us in the Gospel of John , written in Greek ) .

It seems strange that the disciples left the scene without waiting for Jesus enough that the crowds leave and he returned time. It is likely that he has instructed his disciples to meet him in Capernaum , his headquarters in the north, where Peter and his family had a big house . The popularity of Jesus there was huge . We can see that even when he spoke to the faithful and followers in the city's synagogue on " drink his blood and eat his flesh ," he seems to have been violently disturbed . The story simply ends with the words " Jesus said these things in the synagogue as He taught in Capernaum " (John 6:59 ) .

17 Now it was dark , and Jesus had not yet come to them .

Although this is a bit strange , it is possible that the agreement with the disciples of Jesus was that he would come in a separate boat and would reach them in the middle of the lake . Let's find out what took place and that was a big surprise for his disciples .

18 The sea became rough because a strong wind was blowing .

The Lake Kinneret ( Sea of ​​Galilee ) is situated between mountains where , during certain times of the year , a violent storm that can easily turn a small boat can occur . This is today. In fact , I personally know someone who has fished there ( it is not professional fisherman but, nevertheless , is very experienced ) when a storm like the one described in vs.18 occurred . Israeli rescue services were called and the man was airlifted to safety. ( Now he carefully checks the weather before setting out to fish there again ) .

19 When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat , and they were afraid .

Just to give a perspective , the pear shaped lake is about 23 kilometers (14 miles) long from north to south with a maximum width of 13 km (8 miles ) to the north, covering 166 square kilometers ( 64 square miles ) then it is not so great, but , however , is considerable. We are told that the boat with the disciples had walked about 3-4 miles which corresponds to about a quarter of the distance . It was evening and the lights of coastal cities were still shining in the distance . As mentioned the reason they left Jesus is not clear , but see a figure moving in the water was scary.

20 But he said to them : "I am not afraid . " 21 Then they were glad to take him into the boat , and immediately the boat was at the land whither they went.

Jesus did not leave them waiting and quickly responded with reassuring safety. They were amazed and excited to see his rabbi exercise their dominion over the fierce force of nature ( water) , walking on it with ease . But there was no time to think , and a very curious thing happened . Although the distance was still considerable, about 20 kilometers ( 10 miles) to Kfar Nahum ( Capernaum ) , the boat arrived safely at rocky beach. This may sound like an incident unrelated to anything, but we would be guilty of the theological point of view in not knowing that distance and time are under the lordship of God himself and his alone . He lives alone out of time and out of distance , as such , is eternal and omnipresent . So this curious occurrence is actually very important , because it shows that when the God - Man ( Logos of God ) Jesus is in the boat with the disciples , the boat is able to disappear from one place on the map and appear in another . In the previous post , we discussed another curiosity like this that makes a close reader marvel . Jesus was in Jerusalem in John 5 , but the moment he finishes his conversation with hoi Ioudaioi and the beginning of chapter 6 , we found that it was already one of the shores of the Sea of Galilee , ready to embark on your boat and cross the sea. John details the miraculous activity of Jesus , but he focuses on the activity of miracles is not limited to characterize him as a man of God , but as God himself , while also being a real human being in every way , except in sin.

22 The next day the crowd that remained across the sea saw that there had been only one boat there, and that Jesus had not entered the boat with his disciples , but that his disciples had gone away alone .

The crowd wondered what had happened . The disciples could not have left Jesus behind the coast . The crowd watched the place where he could have boarded another boat carefully . Jesus was to be found somewhere after his escape to the mountains when he disappeared after a misguided attempt to crowning the crowd to make him king . The disciples went out without waiting for Jesus. The math just does not work. Where was he ? He is made of flesh and blood, he had to be somewhere . Crowds reasoned that perhaps he had gone to Capernaum . How ? They did not know .

23 Other boats from Tiberias came near the place where they had eaten the bread after the Lord had given thanks . 24 So when the crowd saw that Jesus was not there, nor his disciples , they themselves got into boats and came to Capernaum , seeking Jesus .

Rather, we are able to see the chronology of the story . When the boats arrived from nearby Tiberias south point of the sea ( the last place that Jesus was seen - the same place where Jesus fed the 5,000 people ) , the crowds thought : " Jesus must have taken the boat in Tiberias , where his disciples should have also gone " . Remember, it was night and the crowd could not see that the disciples were not in the direction of Tiberias , northwest , but just to the north toward Capernaum . So in vs . 24 , we read that when the crowds found that neither Jesus nor his disciples were in the boats came from Tiberias , some of them entered the boats and moved to Kfar Nahum north ( Capernaum ) a known place of residence of Jesus . They wanted to see Jesus and nothing would stop them .
